Juan obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Alicante (Spain) in 2013 and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) under the supervision of Dr. Raquel P. Herrera and Dr. María E. Marqués López in 2017. During his Ph.D., he mainly worked as an experimental chemist focused on developing asymmetric organocatalytic reactions.
In March 2018, he joined the Paton group at Colorado State University as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked on computational mechanistic studies and machine learning predictions. He also developed different cheminformatics toolkits for the automation of quantum mechanical protocols and data analysis. In March 2021, he also became part of the Kim group, where he studied mechanisms of reactions with marked industrial interest.
He started working in 2022 at the University of Zaragoza as a Juan de la Cierva researcher as part of the host group led by Dr. Gimeno. Currently, he secured a Tenured Scientist position in CSIC at the Instituto de Síntesis Química y Catálisis Homogénea (Zaragoza, Spain). At this professional stage, Juan is carrying out research on mechanistic studies of multiple types of catalysis and organic synthesis. He blends computational and experimental techniques to design robust mechanistic hypotheses.
